Name of the Touristic Attraction: Malovăț Fossil Point

Location: in 23 August Village, Malovăţ Commune, Mehedinţi County, at a distance of 14 kilometers from the town of Drobeta Turnu Severin.

Description: Malovăţ Fossil Point has an area of 6 ha. The sector in which the fossils are more numerous and from where the faunistic composition of the Pontian deposits represented by bivalves and brachiopods can be investigated is Malovăţ – Boereasca Valley – Colibaşi – Cocorova. The Pontic argill – marl deposits on the Urdă`s Valley, the right tributary of the Malovăţ River with the same stratigraphic succession, and the Boerească Valley contain a Pontian fauna from which a fauna association specific to Bosphorus was identified.
