Description: The limestone Mountain from Şovarna is one of Oltenia’s tourist attractions worth visiting. He is the silent witness of hundreds of years who have passed over Șovarna. For a long time he has been a good source of income for the locals. Dozens of carts with mountain stones were loaded daily and taken to the lime pit for the production of lime. Today, there is only one lime pit in the commune, which the owners keep only for the sake of old times. The production of lime is no longer profitable because of the too large amount of wood that is mandatory to be burnt. During the communist era, a strategic military road was built here, connecting Şovarna to Baile Herculane, in Caraş-Severin County. A few years later, this road at the base of the mountain becomes a place of pilgrimage for the tourists who come to the area, as it reveals places of undeniable beauty where nature is shown in all its splendor.
