Name of Touristic Attraction: The Red Stones Fossil Place

Location: in Husnicioara Commune, Mehedinţi County. Husnicioara commune is 19 km away from Dr. Tr. Severin, on DJ607A Cerneți-Husnicioara.

Description: The Red Stones Fossil Place is considered a monument of nature and in 2000 was declared a protected area of national interest. The area has a paleontological importance and covers an area of about 1 ha. In the composition of the settlement there are two outcrops: one is located in an opening situated above the former Husnicioara II mine, about 300 m from the intersection with the quarry road, in the left slope of the road, and the second, near the road leading to Husnicioara West, in a crash at the forest edge, on the left side of the quarry road, about 100 m from the junction with the DJ607A. Today none of these occurrences is identifiable.

The fossil location was first described in 1987 in the work “Red Stones Fossil Point in the Husnicioara Mining Basin”. In 1994 the stratigraphy of this site is presented, and in 2000 the outpost of the road to the quarry is identified, when new species of molluscs are mentioned.
