Rogljevo Wine Cellars – Asociaţia Pro-Mehedinţi

Thematic route:  Gastronomic Route

Name of the touristic attraction: Rogljevo Wine Cellars

Location: Negotin, municipality of Negotin, Bor district, Eastern Serbia, Republic of Serbia. The wine cellars are located 20 km away from Negotin, and only 600 m from the nearby village of Rogljevo.

Description: Not far from the village of Rogljevo, on the site of the former, wood-built, Sikole and Metris wine cellars whose remains are still in the southern part of the complex, there is a group consisting of nearly 150 wine cellars. Most of them were built a hundred years ago, although it is believed that some date back in the 18th century. On the plate built in the wall of one cellar there was graven the year 1863 as the year of construction, while most of the inscriptions on the plates are illegible suggesting that they might be older. As any spontaneously created agglomeration made of irregular streets and a central plateau with an inscription and a covered well, as any iconic and gathering place, Rogljevo wine cellars possess all the characteristics of the rural area. Until World War Two, were two bakeries and three butchers within the wine cellars, out of which one worked until the 60s, and none of them was located in the village itself. Same as Rajac wine cellars, Rogljevo cellars were used for grape processing and storing wine. Nowadays some of them have the same purpose, while others are renovated and used for tourist purposes.

Conditions: The wine cellars can be reached on foot, by bike, by car or by bus.
