Thematic Route: The Hiking Route

Name of the Touristic Attraction: Eco-touristic Route “Ciucaru Mic”

Location: in Mehedinți County. Route access is from the national road DN57, in Dubova Bay, about 22 km away from Orşova, towards Moldova Nouă.

Description: The route has two options: one can be done in 2 hours, for those who are eager to reach the Danube Small Boilers Plateau , and the other one takes 6 hours, for those who want to get know better the specifics of these places. The climax of the two versions of this route is common, namely the Danube Small Boilers Plateau. The Eco-touristic route consists of mountain paths that cross oaks, beech forests and numerous meadows. Here grows drobiţa (Genista tinctoria), a tincture plant, from which women extracted, in the past, plant dyestuffs for the dyeing of wool. The route is crowded with many belvedere spots, where you can admire Cazanele Mari (The Big Boilers) and Veliki Strbac, located on the Serbian side of the Danube

– marked with equilateral, white triangle with a white border

– Depending on the season it is recommended:

1. Equipping with boots and waterproof clothing
2. Endowment with at least one bottle of 1 liter of water per person and a support stick

– for this route, the tourists have to be accompanied by the rangers of the Iron Gates Natural Park as well as for all the routes, because here can be found natural elements of invaluable value for the Romanian as well as for the European geology, flora and fauna.
