Thematic Route: The Hiking Route

Name of the Touristic Attraction: Svinița – Tricule Trail

Location: in Mehedinți County. The access to the route is made from the national road DN 57 at 1 km from Sviniţa Commune, towards Berzeasca.

Description: This route connects Zelişte – Veligan Amphitheater (from the western flank of Sviniţa Commune) with the formation Cioaca Borii (from the eastern part of Sviniţa Commune). On this ecotourism route we meet many huts, where travelers can temporarily find shelter. From the steps of the amphitheater that is located above Sviniţa commune, you can admire the tranquil waters of the storage lake, Sviniţa Village (totally displaced), the vestiges of houses with traditional Serbian influence architecture and the church of the old village. The Eco-touristic Route Sviniţa – Tricule combines the elements of geology with the historical cross-border stories of the area. The medieval ruins of Tricule, which end the route, are found today in the Danube’s waters, the old river bearing on its shoulders the European history of over 2000 years.

– Depending on the season, it is recommended:

1. Equipping with boots and waterproof clothing
2. Endowment with at least one bottle of 1 liter of water per person and a support stick

– for this route, the tourists have to be accompanied by the rangers of the Iron Gates Natural Park as well as for all the routes, because here can be found natural elements of invaluable value for the Romanian and also European geology, flora and fauna.
