Thematic Route: The Hiking Route

Name of the Touristic Attraction: The Eco-touristic Trail “Tarovăț”

Location: in Mehedinți County. Access to the route is made from the European road E 70, from Orşova exist towards Drobeta Turnu Severin, about 600 m distance. The route starts from the downstream road that enters the mine valley.

Descriere: The route is located in Bahna – Orsova Depression, a hilly area without steep relief. Extremitățile acestuit traseu sunt Orșova, lângă gară și confluența Dunării cu Bahna. The history of the Bahna-Orsova basin begins in the Upper Helvetians when a narrow bay of the Miocene sea (20 million years) that covered Oltenia at that time, appeared. He started at Baia de Aramă and closed somewhere south part from Bahna. This route offers the possibility of an organized and environmentally friendly tourism. It is the combination of the recreational activities with instructional and educational activities. This route is often confused with a former soldiers’ patrol route. It represented, at the beginning of the 19th century, the border of the Austro-Hungarian Empire with Romania.

– physical effort: minimum (does not require special physical condition)

– marked with equilateral blue triangle with white border

– Depending on the season it is recommended:

1. Equipping with boots and waterproof clothing
2. Endowment with at least one bottle of 1 liter of water per person and a support stick

– For this route, the tourists have to be accompanied by the rangers of the Iron Gates Natural Park as well as for all the routes because here there are natural elements of inestimable value for the Romanian as well as for the European geology, flora and fauna.
