Thematic Route: The Hiking Route
Name of the Touristic Attraction: The Eco-touristic Trail “Cioaca Cremeneasca-Rudina”
Location: in Mehedinți County. The access to the route is made from the national road DN 57, 6 km from Dubova, towards Sviniţa. The tourist route departs from an old forest road that climbs “Cioaca Cremenească”, upstream of Plaviseviţa Valley.
Description: The Eco-touristic Route Cioaca Cremeneasca-Rudina is half connected to the Eco-touristic Route Valea Liubotina-Rudina. The climax and in the same time, the common point of the two ecotourism routes, is Rudina, an excellent belvedere spot for both the Romanian and Serbian landscapes.
Legend / Story / Impressions / Recommendations: On this route tourists can observ a few tailings dumps deposited in the middle of natural scenery, following the mining operations in The Iron Gates Gorge. They symbolize either a continuous struggle between man and nature, or the damage, sometimes irreparable, done to nature by Homo Sapiens, from the coexistence of man with nature. But in this whole landscape, in patches anthropic because of the industrial violence, the quartz (the so-called “cremene”, probably from the name of the summit), the old bi-cellular houses (a type of old house, specific to the Iron Gates Gorge area, which has been preserved in a small number only in dwellings), oak forests with subterranean flora, traditional cuisine from the dwellings, are the elements that indicate that the “native of the Iron Gates” has always known to respect nature.
