Location: in Mehedinți County. Obârșia Cloşani Commune is 74 km away from Drobeta Turnu Severin. The commune can be reached from Drobeta Turnu Severin to Godeanu Commune, on DJ670, then DN67D to Obârșia Cloşani.
Description: Obârșia Cloşani is a commune located in the north-western part of Mehedinţi County, at an altitude of about 450-500 m. Obârșia Cloșani is an ethnographic center where the old traditions and handicrafts are preserved with strictness and holiness. It is a place where tourists can take part at local festivities and even at the everyday duties of the people who live in the area. The houses in the commune are arranged along several valleys. Most of the dwellings still have their old traditional architecture. The basic occupations of the local people, from the oldest times, are the artistic woodworking and goat hair processing, Obârșia Cloşani is among the few places in the country, where the goat and sheep’s wool is still processed. In addition to the tourist attractions that nature offers in this area, such as: Stan’s Peak, the highest peak in Mehedinţi Mountains (1466 m), the Karst Spring of Brebina, with an approximate flow of 500 l / s or Natural Reservations : Drăghiceanu Forest and Obrârşia-Cloşani Cornet, here we also find a series of cultural-religious objectives, such as the “Great Holy Martyr, Theodor Tiron” church, built in 1936.
Legend / Story / Impressions / Recommendations The Legend says that 300-400 years ago, four outlaws, such as Danciu, Lupu, Micșa and Trăilă, came from Banat, and these are the ancestors of the families now inhabits the area and is called Dănciulescu, Lupulescu or Trăilescu.

– “The Friday`s plague” or “Ciumarca” – on the first Friday after St. Elijah (The tradition says that St. Nicodemus passed through the area, at a time when the locals were tortured by serious diseases such as plague and who, seeing the suffering of men prayed for them, and they were healed through fasting and prayer.)
