Name of Touristic Attraction: Șimian Island
Location: in Şimian Commune, Mehedinţi County. The island is located downstream from the Iron Gates I Hydroelectric Power Plant, between Romania and Serbia, southeast of Drobeta Turnu-Severin, in the vicinity of Șimian Commune, being visible from DN6.
Legend/ Story/ Impressions/ Recommendations: The Island has an area of 55.50 hectares and the archaeological finds attest to the fact that it was inhabited since the Middle Neolithic. During the construction of the Traian’s Bridge between 103 and 105, the island served as a natural base for water diversion dams. In 1968, before the Iron Gate Lake was formed, a series of objects and objectives were moved to the island of Șiman on the island of Ada-Kaleh. They can still be found today on the island of Șimian.
