The church from Svinița Village, Mehedinți County is an Serbian Orthodox Church, old style one.
The church construction began in 1983 and was completed 10 years later, in 1992. On 27th of October 1992, in the presence of seven priests headed by bishop Sava from Sumadia, Timișoara, the church was consecrated.
The church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas and that’s why nearly half of the families from Svinița celebrate Saint Nicholas in their families.
The ancient village church that was flooded and then demolished was also dedicated to Saint Nicholas.
The paintings, icons and some of the furniture had been recovered and moved to the new church.
Between 1994-1996, the inside of the church was painted by Bofanu Mihai, a painter from Oravița.
The church is the property of the Svinița Community which has about 1000 parishioners.
Martinovici Jiva serves in this church for over 40 years.
Currently the church is painted inside and outside, the courtyard is stacked with layers of flowers and green grass. It is fenced with barbed wire walls and wicker.
