Name of the Touristic Attraction: Vrata Commune.

Location: in the southern part of Mehedinţi County, 65 km away from Drobeta Turnu Severin, about 32 km from Vânju Mare and 45 km from Calafat. Vrata commune can be following DN56A road that connects Drobeta Turnu Severin and Cujmir commune and then DC100 to Vrata.

Description: Vrata Commune is a very old settlement in Mehedinţi County, where numerous testimonies of the ancient period have been discovered over time. Thus, here we find a complex archaeological site with settlements from the Neolithic until the feudal age, located on the edge of the Danube, near the village or feudal necropolis from XV century, partially destroyed by some mechanized works performed in the area, located in the area of the former C.A.P. on the slope that makes the transition from the high terrace to the Danube meadow. It was only partially saved, a tomb in which it was  found: a silver ring, a belt buckle, and several round pieces made of bronze or silver, that had been caught in a fabric with which the face of the deceased was covered. Vrata is not only a place for tourists passionate about archeology and history, but also for sports enthusiasts. Here you can relax going  fishing on the Danube.

Legend / Story / Impressions / Recommendations In the area of Vrata commune, have been found testimonies of the Neolithic dwelling until the feudal age. The population of Vrata commune began to differ in 1905, when three Greeks settled in the village and their occupation was the grocery and some Gypsies working on the Vrata – Gârla-Mica estate. In 1945, a few Rudars were established in the commune, which at that time lived in the hut, on the Danube shore, on the outskirts of the commune, and mainly handled the woodworking, making tubs, spindles or spoons. Today, the people who live in the area are mainly engaged in animal and bird breeding, cereal cultivation and vegetable growing.
