Nowadays, the medieval fortress\u2019 ruins of Tricule have the foundation into the Danube\u2019s waters, this old river which carries the Europe\u2019s 2000 years old history on its shoulders.<\/p>\n
Even from the XV-th century, in Svini\u0163a locality there exists one stone wall fortification placed on a hill. It was abandoned due to the lack of water. After the fortress of Svini\u0163a (defeated by the Teuton knights) was destroyed, with its material it was constructed the Fortress of Tricule (the XVI-th century).<\/p>\n
In the second half of the XVI-th century, Petru Petrovici, Ban over Lugoj, Caransebe\u015f and Mehadia Fortresses and as well over the ones situated in the Danube Valley, builds in Svini\u0163a a fortification made of 3 towers. The towers were linked together by a fence of palisades-an enclosure of triangle shape. It seems that the towers had 2 levels, the highest one having an observation role.<\/p>\n
The fortification played an important role in the battles to rule over this area. The fortress was meant to stop the Turks incursions. It was conquered in turn by the Austrians, Turks and outlaws. Today, one of the towers is under the waters of the accumulation lake.<\/p>\n
