Name of the Touristic Attraction: ‘<\/strong>Teodor Costescu” Cultural Palace<\/p>\n

Location: <\/strong>in Drobeta Turnu Severin, Mehedin\u021bi County, Carol I Boulevard, no. 4<\/p>\n

Legend\u0103 \/ Poveste \/ Impresii<\/strong> \/ Recomand\u0103ri: <\/strong>It is known as the largest architectural monument in Drobeta Turnu Severin, on the UNESCO list. It is the creation of the famous architect Grigore Cerchez and it is declared a protected historical monument. The idea of building the construction belonged to the President of “Turnu Severin City Theater” Society and \u201eTraian\u201d High School, The Director Teodor Costescu. He was also the one who started the project and raised funds. The building was initially thought to include seven halls. Three large halls for library, cinema and restaurant formed the northern wing, and three overlapping halls formed the western wing. Here functioned the C. Istrati Museum, the festive salon and the Helping Room. Between the two wings of the building was located the Theater Hall, with a capacity of 700 seats and equipped with a rotating scene, unique at that time in the country. The construction of the palace began in 1912, but unfortunately the war brings with it, the shutting down of the works, the building being left unfinished. It was not open until 1924, but even then with the showroom left unfinished.\u00a0 Over the years the building has become a true Cultural Palace and for a period of time it has provided the necessary space, to other representative institutions of the city and of the county, including “I.G.Bibicescu” Library, The Free University, “Dr. Constantin I. Istrati “Museum and the cinema. In 2010, the building entered an extensive rehabilitation program, and today most of the cultural events in the city take place here.<\/p>\n
