Name of the Touristic Attraction: <\/strong>The Iron Gates I\u00a0 Museum<\/p>\n

Location: <\/strong>in Gura V\u0103ii, Mehedin\u021bi County, at 5 km from Drobeta Turnu Severin.<\/p>\n

Description: <\/strong>In this museum there are panels with information and images regarding the functioning principles of the hydropower plant as well as the general features of the Danube. Here are presented pieces of history and ethnography from the Iron Gates area, exhibits related to the construction of the Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Danube. In the museum there are exposed popular costumes from the Iron Gates area and a water mill, considered to be the precursor of Pelton’s modern turbine, area-specific exhibits, boat models and a specific Turkish interior related to Ada-Kaleh Island. The incursion into the Iron Gates Hydropower Museum ends with the descent\u00a0 into the Turbine Hall, where the six Kaplan turbines can be admired.<\/p>\n

Legend \/ Story \/ Impressions<\/strong> \/ Recommendations:<\/strong> The construction of the Iron Gates Hydropower System began during Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, namely on September 7th<\/sup> , 1964, and was completed on May 16th<\/sup> , 1972, and the Hydropower Plant Museum was inaugurated in 1976. The Iron Gates I is the largest hydro power plant in Romania and the largest on the Danube, being the first cross-border collaboration between Romania and Serbia. Over 10,000 people worked for its construction, for seven years. For the construction of the sluice gates and the 14 spillways that led to the formation of the water storage, 10 localities from the Romanian bank and 7 from the Serbian bank were moved. On the Romanian side of the Danube, Ada-Kaleh Island and the towns: Or\u015fova, E\u015felni\u0163a, Dubova, V\u00e2rciorova, Tufari, Jup\u00e2lnic, Ogradena, Ti\u015fovi\u0163a and Plavi\u015fevi\u0163a were flooded and moved. The results of the hard work of the people who worked at the construction of the hydropower plant were multiple: the extension of the navigation period on the Danube from 200 days a year to a whole year, a fantastic energy source and the touristic development of the area.<\/p>\n
