Name of the Touristic Attraction: <\/strong>Baia de Aram\u0103 Monastery<\/p>\n

Location:<\/strong> in Baia de Aram\u0103, Mehedin\u021bi County, situated 73 km from Drobeta Turnu Severin, on DJ670 towards T\u00e2rgu Jiu. The monastery is located in the north-west part of Oltenia, on Mehedin\u0163i Plateau, in a small depression. It is surrounded by Dochiciu, Dealul-Mare and Cornet Hills, communicating through national roads with T\u00e2rgu Jiu, Motru, Strehaia and Drobeta Turnu Severin.<\/p>\n

Description:<\/strong> Surrounded by the Dochiciu, Dealul Mare and Cornet hills, communicating through national roads with T\u00e2rgu Jiu, Motru, Strehaia and Drobeta Turnu Severin, the monastery started operating in 1703 as a hermitage. Later, the settlement was dedicated to the Hilandar Monastery of Mount Athos. The ensemble was permanently under the leadership of the Greek or Serbian abbots, thus being a center of intercultural spiritual interference and at the same time creating communion relationships with the neighboring Serbian people. The monastery completely preserves the original painting, performed in the fresco technique, specific to the interior decoration from the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the eighteenth century, on the territory between the Southern Carpathians and the Danube. Initially it functioned as a monastery of monks, and later as a nunnery monastery under the jurisdiction of the Episcopate of Severin and Strehaia. The monastery dates back in 1400, during the time of Saint Nicodemus of Tismana, being a wooden building back then. The construction of the present building, where the monastery operates, begins in 1699 at the impulse of Prince Constantin Br\u00e2ncoveanu and ends in 1703. There is also a legend about this monastery. It says that the ruler hid a treasure in the worship place, in the walls, under the church or near the monastery, while it was built. Then there it was said that a map of finding the treasure was found, and over the years many thieves tried to find the Br\u00e2ncovenian gold. All these attempts have led to the degradation of the building and to the state in which it is at this moment.<\/p>\n
