Name of the Touristic Attraction: <\/strong>The Water Castle<\/p>\n Location: <\/strong>in Drobeta Turnu Severin City, Mehedin\u021bi County, Cri\u0219an Street, at the intersection with Dr. Saidac Street.<\/p>\n Description: <\/strong>The Water Castle is 27 meters tall. The emblematic building, 107-year old is the work of the engineer Elie Radu.<\/p>\n Legend \/ Story \/ Impresssions<\/strong> \/ Recommendation<\/strong>: Just like the foot of the Trajan’s Bridge and the ruins of the Severin Fortress, the medieval castle built in the center of the city is a historical symbol that has survived over time. The construction of the Castle is related to the water supply of the city, from the Danube. The project provided for decantation, filtering and sterilization of ozone-depleted Danube water. The project provided the water supply from the Danube, decanted, filtered and sterilized with ozone aid. It was approved by the Communal Council on June 10th<\/sup>, 1910, and the building was to be located at the highest elevation in the city, at 104 meters altitude, for an advantageous water distribution in all areas of the city. The agreement on the project was given by Anghel Saligny, the founder of Cernavod\u0103 Bridge. The construction of the castle was completed in 1913, and in 1914, when the entire water supply system of the city was put into operation, it was inaugurated. The whole system was provided with a catchment area upstream of the city, a water plant that was supposed to do the decanting, filtering and sterilizing, and last but not least, the water castle itself, intended to do the distribution. The building was designed to be built from reinforced concrete and organized inside with two overlaid tanks. Each tank served a certain part of the city. Their capacity was of 1025 cubic meters. During the First World War, the Castle served as point of observation for the German army, due to the four turrets, originally built to be used in case of need by the firefighters. In 1980, the Water Castle lost its usefulness due to the increase in number of the inhabitants in Drobeta Turnu Severin. Therefore\u00a0 the ponds are emptied and the building is used for offices and workshops for the water supply and sewerage company.
