Thematic Route<\/strong>: The Cultural Heritage Route<\/p>\n

Name of the Touristic Attraction<\/strong>: E\u015felni\u0163a Commune<\/p>\n

Location<\/strong>: in Mehedinti County, 37 km away from Drobeta Turnu Severin. It is located in the western part of the County, on DN 57.<\/p>\n

Description<\/strong>: Originally called “Ie\u015felnita”, the present village is a former border area with pastures, meadows, orchards, vineyards, forests, chrome exploitation at Ogradena, craft workshops, marble quarries and burned lime pits. The current settlement dates back in 1970 when, after the construction of the “Iron Gates I” HydroPower Plant, the level of the water storage grew, drowning and generating the relocation of 24 settlements along the Danube, including E\u015felnita. Today it is one of the most important tourist attraction on the Danube Cluster, due to the many options that the tourists find here. Thus, he can visit: the Ethnography Museum \u201cDoina Olimpia and Teodor Grigore\u201d, \u201cSt. Nicholas\u201d Church and the Parohial Museum and The Center of growing in captivity of the Hermann turtle, or he can optate for one of the recreational activities that take place here: hiking on one of the ecotouristic trails or a cruise on the Danube, a bicycle ride on one of the paths of Locvei, Almaj and Mehedinti Mountains, sportive fishing or various competitions and games. There is also an arranged polygon for mountaineers, where small and medium difficulty climbing elements can be learned: climbing, booster, tyrolean.<\/p>\n

Legend \/ Story \/ Impressions \/ Recommendations<\/strong>: This area was inhabited since the Paleolithic, when occupants were hunters and fishermen. The first documentary mentioning of the place is in 1484, when Matei Corvin donats, to Iacob G\u00e2rli\u015fteanu, a series of lands including E\u015felni\u0163a.<\/p>\n
