Plums for junk – Asociaţia Pro-Mehedinţi

The project entitled: ”Plums for junk”, Project code 15.2.1.054 was financed under INTERREG V-A Romania-Bulgaria Programme, this programme was financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund and co-financed by Romania and Bulgaria through contributions from state budget and from project beneficiaries.

The project was implemented by “Phoenix – 21 century” Foundation, Vidin in partnership with “Regional partnerships for sustainable development – Vidin” Association and Pro-Mehedinti Association.

The general objective of the project was to inform the population of the target area about wild life in protected areas and engage the people in concrete actions for protection of the environment in towns and Natura 2000 protected areas.

Among the project activities, it is mentioned:

  • Conducting study of the status of protected areas and wetlands and Natura 2000 sites in the municipalities along the Danube from Vidin to Oryahovo
  • Conducting study of the status of protected areas and wetlands along the Danube in Mehedinti county
  • Organization of 4 seminars aimed at uniting institutional and stakeholders forces in Bulgaria
  • Organization of 4 seminars aimed uniting institutional and stakeholders forces in Romania
  • Developing common strategies for managing protected areas in the target area border
  • Traveling scout camp in Bulgaria
  • Traveling scout camp in Romania
  • Filming wild life and eco issues along the Danube
  • Elaboration of promotional materials
  • Traveling PLUMS FOR JUNK cleansing campaign in Bulgaria

The project results were:

– studied wildlife in protected target areas

– reduced pollution in towns and protected areas;

– developed joint strategy for management of protected areas

The target group of the project was:

–        210 Local authorities, institutions, stakeholders from Romania and Bulgaria

–        20 scout and 600 students from Mehedinți and Vidin

–        800 volunteers from Mehedinți and Vidin participating in PLUMS FOR JUNK campaign
